The City of Mechanicville is very proud of its Italian heritage as was seen at the 106th Anniversary of the Feast of Assumption August 15, 2009. Along with a special Mass, there was a street Procession followed by an Italian Festival with fireworks. Pictured: The portrait of the Blessed Mother is carried through the streets by these lovely young ladies. See more in the August 18, 2009 issue of The Express.

The Marion Family, Native American Dancers, brought color and excitement to the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain Celebration held at Mechanicville's City Dock on August 22 and 23. These festivities were part of the Explore NY 400 initiative which this summer is marking the 400 year anniversary of the exploration of Henry Hudson and Samuel de Champlain, as well as the bicentennial of Robert Fulton's steamboat voyage from Albany to New York. City of Mechanicville Mayor Anthony Sylvester is pictured accepting a Hands in Peace Hat (which was donated by Val's Sporting Goods of Mechanicville) from Jaimen McMillan of the Arts Center on the Hudson. The autographed hat came from Senator Darrell Steinberg of California. The Senator was thanking the Mayor for his city being the hometown of Hands in Peace.
